Winter is the season that brings joy and fun, outdoor activities, and adventures. You can never stop your child from going outside and play in the snow and cold. All you can do is taking care of them when they are going outdoors. Mommies are usually so worried about how they can take care of their children’s health and keep them away from winter illnesses. You try your best to keep the temperatures of the house low and give the best foods that protect them from cold. Instead, there are tips you need to consider and cross-check whether you are following or not.
Set Safety Guidelines
Well, you have already taught your child how to safely play outside. But, still, there is a need to make them mindful of the guidelines and safety precautions.
- Do not allow them to go out alone.
- Their skating should be within limits on the streets, they are not too close to the traffic.
- Make sure they do not have signs of frostbite.
- Make them aware of the places and tunnels that can collapse.
Protect the Skin
The skin of children is already so sensitive. Due to low humidity and cold weather, the skin usually remains dry. It is important to protect the skin of your child.
- Avoid showers and give a bath with warm water daily, and let the body absorb moisture as much as it can.
- Moisturize your kid right after a bath.
- In winter, dryness cause the child to lick their lips, and the bacteria in the saliva irritates the lips. However, it is important to apply lip balm or petroleum gel.
- Apply petroleum gel or moisturizer on those chubby cheeks.
- Do not forget sunscreen to apply before they go outside. Try to use SPF30 or higher.
- Avoid wet and cold mittens as they can dry your skin that causes cracks on the fingers.
Keep your Kid Hydrated
Children sweat when they play, however, make sure they are taking breaks for water. Like the moisturizer, hydration also gets ignored. Hydration should be on priority in the list of safety tips. Children lose water in their body through breath even if they are not sweating, it is important to replenish the fluid of the body. For children, hot soups and drinks are recommended to take frequently that help them ingest more body fluid.
Layer up them properly
Well, it is something really important. Covering the kid from head to toe is the requirement to enjoy the winter adventures. When they are exposed to the cold weather, make sure they are ready to protect themselves from breezy winds. In the winter season, children are more vulnerable to get ill. However, it is subtle to layer up them comfortably and make sure you are not burdening extra clothes that overheat and cause other medical problems. Ears, hands, feet, and chest should be perfectly covered. Use double or triple layer or sweater, jackets or overcoats (depending on the temperature), cover the hands with gloves, cover feet with socks, and do not forget the cap that properly protects the head and ears from the chilly wind.
